Letter to Congress for the Children’s Museum of Northern Virginia

Dear Representative:

The House of Representatives is currently working on a bill called the "US Competitiveness in Education Act." This bill provides funding to promote Math and Science Education to get American kids excited about these subjects in order to fight the growing gap between American students and students across the world.

We can not afford to wait. Our children are falling behind in math and science and Northern Virginia is no exception. According to the U.S. Department of Education, in international competitions, U.S. twelfth graders fall near the bottom or last in mathematics and science. In fact, more than 50 percent of all engineering doctoral degrees awarded by U.S. engineering colleges are to foreign nationals.

The Children's Museum of Northern Virginia (CMNOVA), an interactive education and exploration center with a focus on science and technology, is currently in development and will be a critical resource for Northern Virginia's 1 Million (plus) residents. The Phase I project, encompassing 150,000 square feet of fun and discovery in an environmentally friendly "green" building, will provide hands on learning exhibits accessible to all children and will feature a community focused Performance Theater and planetarium.

I encourage you to support the US Competitiveness in Education Act and CMNOVA for our children in Northern Virginia.
