The
Great
Toy
Adventure
comes to
Northern
Virginia
The
Children's
Museum of
Northern
Virginia is
partnering
with
Washington
FAMILY
Magazine to
present The
Great Toy
Adventure.
The Great
Toy
Adventure is
a traveling,
hands-on
experience
with
award-winning,
educational
toys where
parents and
children can
touch, feel,
explore, and
learn with
the toys. It
is also an
opportunity
for parents
to see the
toys in
action
before they
buy them.
Along with
staff from
FAMILY
Magazine, we
will host
several "toy
safari" with
approximately
100 award-
winning toys
at different
locations
throughout
the metro
Washington,
DC region
during
November and
December. We
will have
printed
information
about the
toys as
well. These
are toys
that have
won awards
or are
educational.
The "safari"
is supposed
to be fun
and
informative
and we are
not selling
toys at
these
events. The
toys will
range from
toddler toys
to older
items for
preteens. If
you would be
interested
in
volunteering
to attend a
"safari" as
a CMNOVA
volunteer
and help
supervise
the play,
let us know.
Send an
email to
info@cmnova.org
or call
703-648-3130.
Times and
locations
vary. Be
sure to
attend a toy
"safari!" We
would love
to see you
there! For
more
information
about the
Great Toy
Adventure,

FAMILY
Magazine Web

We look
forward to
seeing you!

Greetings!
The
Children's
Museum of
Northern
Virginia is
pleased to
welcome our
first
employee,
Stephanie
Beck!
Stephanie
comes to us
from the
Smithsonian
National
Museum of
African Art.
At the NMAFA,
Stephanie
worked on
the upcoming
Walt Disney-
Tishman
collection,
preparing
the pieces
for
exhibition
and a book
about the
exhibit for
publication.
Prior to
that,
Stephanie
studied at
the
University
of Virginia
and worked
at the UVA
Art Museum
in museum
education,
where she
trained
student
docents,
designed and
gave tours.
We are very
excited to
have her
aboard and
to be moving
forward!

A Home for
the Museum
in the Works
|
|
CMNOVA has
begun its
site
selection
process in
earnest. We
are looking
for a site
that is
conveniently
located and
provides
access to
families
visiting
from
throughout
Northern
Virginia.
Our goal is
to house the
museum in a
site this is
approximately
100,000
square feet
with ample
parking and
complete
handicap
accessibility.
We are
working with
potential
development
partners,
refining our
criteria and
are taking
the
necessary
steps to
ensure that
the site we
select will
be worthy of
a children's
museum in
our
community.
CMNOVA
believes
that the
eventual
site of the
museum will
be the one
that
provides the
most
community
support for
the project.
We will keep
you posted
as we work
towards
identifying
a great site
for the
museum.

CMNOVA
Partners
with the
Junior
League of
Northern
Virginia
|
|
The
Children's
Museum of
Northern
Virginia
entered a
partnership
with the
Junior
League of
Northern
Virginia to
help
establish a
permanent
childrenšs
museum in
Northern
Virginia.
The JLNV
agreed to
provide
$250,000 in
financial
support and
500
volunteer
hours to the
museum as
part of its
five- year
commitment
to the
effort. The
CMNOVA is
currently
operating as
a "museum
without
walls" by
taking
programming
to various
locations
around
Northern
Virginia and
building
support for
the museum
among an
already
enthusiastic
community.
The
objectives
of the
CMNOVA are
compatible
with the
JLNV's
primary
focus to
"prepare
children for
success." In
recent
years, the
JLNV has
coordinated
annual
drives for
school
supplies for
at-risk
youth,
coordinated
school-based
enrichment
programs and
has donated
more than
$67,000 to
Northern
Virginia
organizations
that share
their vision
for aiding
children in
meeting
their
potential.
JLNV members
donate
20,000
volunteer
hours
annually to
a number of
rewarding
and engaging
projects.
The
Children's
Museum of
Northern
Virginia and
the Junior
League of
Northern
Virginia are
excited
about this
partnership
and believe
it will
further the
goal of
encouraging
children in
our
community to
explore and
love
learning!

CMNOVA Needs
You!
|
|
If you are
interested
in getting
involved
with CMNOVA,
we have
multiple
opportunities
for you.
Take a look
at the list
below for
our current
volunteer
needs or if
you have
specific
professional
skills or
resources
you would
like to
donate to
the museum,
please email
info@cmnova.org
or call
703.648.3130
for more
information.
Volunteer
Coordinator
- We are
looking for
a few good
people to
coordinate
the
volunteers
for several
community
events per
year. If you
have
excellent
organizational
skills,
great
contacts
with other
potential
volunteers
in our
community,
and the
ability to
help
children
learn while
they play
with our
interactive
traveling
exhibits,
then this is
the job for
you!
Administrative
Support
- Help our
office out
and
volunteer to
come in on a
regular or
as-needed
basis to
stuff
envelopes,
organize
brochures,
or make
copies.
Bring a
friend and
make it fun!
Committee
Volunteers
- We
currently
have
openings on
several of
our Board of
Directors
sub-committees.
These
committees
are working
on some
great
initiatives
for CMNOVA,
such as a
supporter
drive and
community
outreach
events.
Please
contact us
at
info@cmnova.org
to obtain a
volunteer
application
for these
positions.
Event
Volunteers
- CMNOVA is
in your
community!
We need
volunteers
to staff
booths,
information
tables, and
exhibits at
different
events
throughout
the year. If
you love
working
directly
with the
children
CMNOVA will
serve and
giving
people a
glimpse of
what a great
addition
CMNOVA will
be in the
Northern
Virginia
community,
check the
calendar on
our website
(www.cmnova.org)
for upcoming
events or
email
info@cmnova.org
and we'll
let you know
what is on
the
schedule!
